When we developed the first PTC heating element in 1981 I had no idea about the variety of applications for which it could be used. Originally, the elements were made to heat car seats, while today, the same technology is used for heating homes, roof deicing and snowmelt, ship deicing and a variety of other applications.
During the late 80's and the beginning of the 90's I started to experiment using the original heating elements for floor heating and other applications. I soon discovered that the heating elements needed additional development to achieve a higher degree of safety and longevity.
Today we have a variety of PTC-elements with special characteristics for different usages. These elements are Patented and are thoroughly tested by renowned testing laboratories to comply with international security codes (UL, CSA and CE; ETL tested and approved). To comply with the approvals of our system, we require the use of tested and approved components (eg. power supply) and selected accessories (eg. wires, connectors). My experience is that the quality of these accessories is of the highest importance to make the system safe. Our distributors are therefore obliged to use our approved accessories and to make sure that our customers get the quality and safe heating solution they expect.
Last, but just as important, is to make the correct calculations according to the required heating needs and the type of application. We have therefore developed a STEP HandbookTM with literature and installation procedures in addition to proprietary programs for heat loss calculations, layouts and worksheets. All of this to make sure you have a safely installed heating solution.
